When death entered the garden

This fall something exciting is taking place at The NY Botanical Garden. A multidisciplinary artist Ebony G. Patterson (b.1981) had released a wake of vultures upon the lawns, gardens, and the Victorian glass dome of Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. For those who do not know – a group of large raptors circling the dead is called a “wake.” Patterson’s show …things come to thrive…in the shedding…in the molting… will be on view until October 22, 2023, when it will all come down. The work and the plants that surround them will be allowed to disintegrate and die. It was Patterson’s wish to let her inorganic pieces fall apart and organic ones die natural plant death: a natural occurrence at the end of the fall.
